Practical ways to make 2017 the happiest, healthiest year

 

With the New Year just begun, many of us are sitting down and trying to work out the steps that we need to take in order to make 2017 a better year than 2016. Here are some simple steps to help you with your planning.

Clear out your clutter

If you have cupboards or desks overflowing with items, getting rid of things you have no use for can be a truly rewarding experience on an emotional level, along with giving you more space to work with. Just don't focus entirely on practicality. Remember that some things have emotional meaning, and their loss can be genuinely painful. Don't throw away things you truly treasure - just all of those things that you never look at or use.

Add more water

We all know that we are supposed to drink between eight to ten glasses of water a day, but how many of us really do? Along with ensuring that we aren’t dehydrated, drinking regularly helps to keep us looking good, eliminates toxins, and helps to keep the digestive system as a whole healthy.

Stop complaining

Easier said than done, I know. Set aside a time – use 15 minutes in the morning and another 15 at night – in order to complain about all of those nagging little things that wind you up. Once the 15 minutes is up, brainstorm ways to deal with them effectively in the future. Being proactive about things like this really does make a huge difference.

Get moving

The collective groan as you suggest to your family about going on a walk tells you exactly how popular the idea of exercise can be. But it doesn’t have to be a chore. Find an activity you enjoy. Go to dance classes, take up rollerblading or explore your surroundings on family bike rides. Whatever it is, do it regularly.

Get enough sleep

Most of us need (yes, need) at least eight hours of sleep every night. It has been shown that getting less sleep than this results in poorer cognitive abilities overall during the day. Not to mention the fact that getting enough sleep reduces stress levels and gives your body a chance to repair and recharge.
